‘Goose Neck Chardonnay - The International Premier Screening (launch)
SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER, 12PM – 5PM
Alexia Film Studios in association with Alexia Urban Winery have announced the date of the international premier screening (launch) of ‘Goose Neck Chardonnay’, the long-awaited sequel to ‘Happy Wife Chardonnay’.
The premier screening will take place 12PM-5PM, Saturday 13 September at a special one day only pop-up event at Alexia Urban Winery where Goose Neck Chardonnay will be pouring all day accompanied by the return of ‘Tom’s Toasties’ gourmet toasties bar.
Tickets/bookings aren’t required, just turn up!
Director/Winemaker Jane Cooper said the name Goose Neck was inspired by a local Greytown swimming hole on the Waiohine River close to the Alexia winery.
“We decided rather than call this sequel Chardonnay ‘Happy Wife 2’, or even ‘Fed Up Wife’ that ‘Goose Neck’ was a more accurate reflection of where we are going with part two of this Chardonnay story.
“Happy Wife was made from Hawke’s Bay grapes, whereas Goose Neck is made from Wairarapa grapes. We wanted to acknowledge this with a name that was significant to us.”
After a four year creative hiatus from making Chardonnay, Cooper also addressed the (Chardonnay) elephant in the room.
“Not making any Chardonnay since 2020 has been difficult for us, as people have said terrible things like ‘maybe Alexia doesn’t want to make Chardonnay anymore’ and ‘Alexia must have a creative Chardonnay block’.
“The truth is we have been waiting for the vines to grow, we’ve been making the wine, and then the editing process in the winery took time to bring the Chardonnay together.”
When asked how she thinks audiences will receive Goose Neck, Cooper had this to say:
“Happy Wife was first released in 2017, so a lot has changed for the main characters since then. In Goose Neck, Chardonnay reprises its lead role, with Oak as a subtle supporting character. Performances from both are nuanced and quietly powerful. There is also a freshness and energy to Goose Neck that comes from working with new creative material. I think Chardonnay lovers will see this as a fitting sequel.”

‘Carnevale’ Paninoteca Bar
SATURDAY 5 JULY, 12PM – 5PM
We’re bringing a little bit of the Carnival of Venice to the Greytown Festival of Christmas with our pop-up ‘Carnevale’ Paninoteca Bar!
Step away from the chaos of the Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco to the back streets of old Venice and you’ll find little paninotecas (panini shops) serving delicious toasted focaccia paninis…with a glass or two of local wine of course.
Alexia is getting into the Venice spirit too, transforming our little urban winery into a pop-up Venetian Paninoteca Bar! The focaccia paninis will be toasting all day matched to the Alexia wine list, and the ‘frittelle’ (special Venetian doughnuts eaten during ‘Carnevale’) will be selling until they’re gone!
It’s also the GLOBAL launch of our newest wine - a delicious Wairarapa grown, Italian red called Lagrein, originally from the Trentino region of Italy…not far from Venice! It’s the perfect match for a delightful Italian lunch.
We’ll also have new release White Pinot Noir and all the other Alexia favourites for you to enjoy.
Close your eyes, smell the mozzarella, take a sip of Lagrein and you could almost be in Italy!
It’s all going to be ‘delizioso’, but it’s one day only, so jump in your gondolas and get to Alexia!

Pinot Noir Mardi Gras
(A Not Serious Pinot Noir Masterclass)
SATURDAY 12 JULY, 2PM
It’s Pinot…but not as you know it! Join Alexia for an informal (but still informative) masterclass - exploring the four very different expressions of Pinot Noir made by our tiny urban winery.
Take a seat, hear the stories, and taste the love put into each wine as Alexia co-owners Jane (also winemaker) and Lesley traverse the subjects of Méthode Traditionnelle, White Pinot Noir, Rosé, Pinot Noir, art and family.
By the end of this session you’ll be in the know about the Alexia back story and our urban winery journey, how Alexia’s Méthode Traditionnelle is made, finally understand what White Pinot Noir is, learn about different Rosé styles, and have a whole new appreciation of why Wairarapa Pinot Noir is so unique.
Full details and tickets are for sale via our online shop. No door sales, so get in quick!

Fondue Chalet
(Wine + Fondue Festival)
SATURDAY 19 JULY, 12PM - 5PM
Yodelayheehoo! We’re bringing the Alps to Alexia and transforming our little urban winery into a cosy Swiss chalet to host possibly the world’s smallest wine and fondue festival!
Why travel to Geneva when you can travel to Greytown for an authentic après-ski wine and fondue session…without the bother of skiing…or the snow. It’s guaranteed to be fun though!
Our Grüner Veltliner based cheese fondue is the star of the show – with plenty of bread to dip of course! We’ll be serving up these little hot pots of happiness (including fondue rules), alongside some other hot cheese delicacies, and our famous Toblerone cremè doughnuts, all matched to the Alexia wine list.
Who needs the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc when there’s Blanc de Blancs, mountains of cheese and wine, and plenty winter spirit to share!
It’s one day only, so dust off those ski-jackets and googles, clip on those crampons and get to Alexia!
